Sabella, developing the sea’s potential

SABELLA is at the heart of the environmental and societal issues of the 21st century. In addition to the challenge imposed by climate change, the planet is faced with fossil fuel depletion and a growing demand for electricity to meet new needs (transport, emerging countries etc.). This situation is added to by inflationary tensions, and many nations are keen to ensure their energy independence by developing alternative and renewable energies on their own territory.

The international climate protection initiative also triggered the definition of ambitious targets for 2020 in terms of renewable electricity production. All natural and sustainable resources will help to achieve these targets: wind, sun, land, rivers, and of course the sea, a source of so much energy, whose exploitation is eagerly awaited.

SABELLA chose to target hydrokinetic energy (speed of hydraulic flow) by designing systems to capture and transform this energy.

Thus, SABELLA developed a tidal stream turbine solution, designed to utilise marine currents.

NEWS

  • From 18 to 21 January, SABELLA will take part in Environment 2010 in Abu Dhabi.
  • SABELLA displayed its technology at a popular stand at the 3rd Tidal Energy Summit, held in London on 17 and 18 November 2009.
  • The company SABELLA Inc., 40% owned by SABELLA SAS, is currently being registered in Quebec, and aims to develop a river turbine.
  • SABELLA SAS is being consulted about several tidal turbine farms in the Channel Islands and about an archipelago in the southern hemisphere.
  • SABELLA took part in the Rencontres Internationales du Havre, dedicated to offshore wind farms and marine energy, and was represented at its partners’ stands.
